NEWARK, Del. -- Despite a disappointing 20-8 loss to Colonial Athletic Association rival James Madison Saturday afternoon, the University of Delaware football squad remained in the Top 25 in both The Sports Network and Football Championship Subdivision Coaches poll announced Monday afternoon.
Delaware (5-3, 3-3 CAA), which hosts Hofstra this Saturday at 12 noon at Delaware Stadium, dropped five spots to No. 23 in The Sports Network poll and nine spots to No. 25 in the FCS Coaches poll. In addition, the Hens fell from No. 5 to No. 9 in the Meadowlands Lambert Cup Eastern poll.
The Hens have now been ranked in the national Top 25 in each of the last four weeks. Delaware was one of five CAA teams in both polls and one of eight overall to receive votes.
Defending NCAA champion Richmond remained No. 1 once again in both polls, earning 123 of a possible 141 first place votes in the TSN poll and all 28 first place votes in the coaches poll. The top 10 in both polls was identical with Montana at No. 2 followed by Southern Illinois, Villanova, William & Mary, Elon, Appalachian State, New Hampshire, South Dakota State, and South Carolina State.
In the TSN poll, Northern Iowa was No. 11 followed by McNeese State, Holy Cross, Eastern Illinois, Stephen F. Austin, Liberty, Jacksonville State, Colgate, Weber State, Central Arkansas, Eastern Washington, Prairie View A&M, Delaware, Florida A&M, and Lafayette. In the FCS poll, McNeese State was No. 11 followed by Northern Iowa, Eastern Illinois, Holy Cross, Jacksonville State, Eastern Washington, Liberty, Stephen F. Austin, Central Arkansas, Colgate, Weber State, Prairie View A&M, Florida A&M, Lafayette, and Delaware.
