High School Honors: One of the top quarterbacks in the state in 2001 at Somerville High School for his father and head coach Kevin Carty...teammate of current Ud offensive tackle Saul Freund...earned Associated Press first team All-State honors as a senior when he completed 220 of 390 passes for a school record 3,504 yards and a state record 43 touchdowns...a two-year varsity starter at quarterback, he hit on 374 of 679 passes for 5,779 yards and 65 touchdowns, all school records...played wide receiver as a sophomore...named to New Jersey Football Coaches Association Super 100 All-State team...also named area Offensive Player of the Year by the Bridgewater Courier News and county Offensive Player of the Year by the Newark Star-Ledger...first team all-conference, all-area, and all-county selection...also honored by the Downtown Athletic Club as a High School Heisman Tri-State All-Star...was high school teammate of current UD offensive lineman Saul Freund...also played baseball as a catcher and designated hitter at Somerville High School under coach Rick Sabol...honor roll student who was named school's Freshman Student of the Year.

At Delaware: 2003: Outstanding talent with good knowledge of the game and of the Blue Hen offense...will battle for fellow redshirt freshman Brad Michael for No. 2 quarterback spot behind senior starter Andy Hall...has good arm despite 5-11, 185 lb. size...hit on 3 of 6 passes for 17 yards in spring game...2002: Freshman who spent most of season as No. 3 quarterback on depth chart but did not see action...moved up to top backup in season finale vs. Villanova when Hall was out with a shoulder injury...retained freshman eligibility.

Personal: Ryan David Carty...born Aug. 9, 1983...son of Kevin and Shirley Carty...honor student as a business major...father played football at the College of New Jersey (formerly Trenton State) in 1968-71, brother, Kevin, played quarterback at North Carolina and William & Mary in 1997-00, and brother, Sean, currently plays football at Rutgers...mother is a physical education teacher.
