High School: Standout at nearby Middletown High School where he played football for head coach Bill DiNardo and also was a member of the track and field team...played offensive and defensive line positions and was a deep snapper...two-time All-Blue Hen Conference selection...led squad to two conference titles and to state runner-up spot...competed in shot put, discus, and 800 meters for track and field team...National Honor Society...

At Delaware: Former walk-on and fourth-year team member...three-year letterwinner who is No. 2 on Delaware’s active games played list with 40...will handle Delaware’s long snapping duties for the third straight year and is expected to take over short snapping duties with the loss of Scott Conley...has been nearly flawless on snaps during his career...will be back at full strength after missing the spring with a shoulder injury...

2004: Earned third letter as team’s deep snapper on punts...played in all 16 games...teamed with punter Mike Weber for 37.2 average with just one punt blocked...backed-up Scott Conley on placement snaps....

2003: Second season as deep snapper for Hens...teamed with Weber to become a valuable tandem...team did not have a punt blocked all season in 67 attempts...appeared in all 16 games...

2002: One of only three true freshmen to see action for the Hens along with cornerback Roger Brown and defensive lineman Tom Parks...earned letter as team’s snapper on extra points and field goals...teamed with holder Joe Bleymaier and kicker Scott Collins to help Hens convert on all 31 extra point attempts and 12 of 22 field goals...

Personal: Brett Christopher Wharton...born Sept. 22, 1984...son of John and Bonnie Wharton...biology/pre-med major...has one older sister...mother works in Transportation Services department at the University of Delaware...enjoys fishing and camping and plays the harmonica...works construction during the summers...has been active with Athletes in Action christian athletics camps.
