High School: Versatile and speedy defensive back and kick returner at Lakeside High School under head coach Bill Harris...four-year varsity standout who was named team’s Most Valuable Defensive Back three times...named to All-Southeast Region team as a senior and was a two-time All-DeKalb County selection...three-time DeKalb Touchdown Club Player of the Month...named to DeKalb/Rockdale County Super 11 team as a junior...intercepted 19 passes in his career...scored five touchdowns off interceptions and kick returns as a sophomore...had five interceptions as a freshman in 1999, six in 2000, five in 2001, and three in 2002...posted 54 tackles as a junior and 44 as a senior...also ran sprints and relays in track...turned down several I-A offers to attend Delaware.

At Delaware: Fifth-year senior who has earned three letters for Blue Hens...one of 14 seniors on squad and one of four in defensive secondary...will battle with sophomore Aaron Hicks to earn starting spot at free safety in talented and deep secondary...can also help team on special teams on kick and punt coverage...has appeared in 36 career games with 10 starts and recorded 45 tackles, including 29 solo stops...also has one pass breakup and two interceptions...versatile player with good size who can play both safety positions and cornerback...had one tackle in Blue-White spring game...2005: Saw action in all 11 games with seven starts for team that went 6-5 for head coach K.C. Keeler...started first two games of season at strong safety and five games at cornerback...registered a career-high 22 tackles, including 15 solo stops, and led team with two interceptions, returning them for 26 yards...had season-high five tackles each vs. Towson and Massachusetts and made three stops vs. Lehigh and Richmond...returned interception 18 yards vs. Villanova and eight yards vs. James Madison...named Blue Hen Touchdown Club Defensive Player of the Week vs. Maine when he had two tackles...sat out spring drills with a shoulder injury...2004: Earned second letter as a backup safety and special teams player for team that went 9-4, won the Atlantic 10 title, and advanced to the NCAA I-AA quarterfinals...appeared in 12 games, all in a reserve role...did not play in the loss at Navy...registered seven tackles, including three solo stops...had season-high two tackles in season opener vs. New Hampshire...recorded one tackle in spring game...2003: One of just four true freshmen to see action for 15-1 team that captured the NCAA I-AA national title, joining defensive back Rashaad Woodard, linebacker KeiAndre Hepburn, and defensive tackle Bubba Jespersen...appeared in 13 games and started at cornerback in wins over Rhode Island, Navy, and Maine...sat out contests vs. West Chester, Hofstra, and William & Mary while recovering from a bout of mononucleosis...recorded 16 tackles on the season, including 11 solo stops, and broke up one pass...enjoyed best game vs. Maine when he recorded eight tackles, including six solo stops, in the overtime victory...also had three tackles in win over Navy.

Personal: Nicos Diaz Chavis (“neekos chay-vus”)...son of Diaz and Katherine Chavis...economics major at Delaware...father is a civil engineer...both parents are graduates of South Carolina State...father ran track in college...uncle, Reggie Pleasant, was a former National Football League player.
