High School: Teamed with fellow Delaware recruit Jarryd Moyer at Manheim Central High School for coach Mike Williams...led 2003 team to 15-0 record, the District III title, and the state AAA title...earned first team All-State honors and was named the Lancaster-Lebanon League Lineman of the Year in 2003 as a center...first team All-State by Pennsylvania Football News...had 107 tackles, two sacks, and returned an interception for a touchdown in 2003 as a defensive lineman...voted Best All-Around Male of Senior Class...played in prestigious Big 33 Game vs. Ohio All-Stars...earned second team All-Lancaster Lebanon League honors as a center as a junior in 2002 for team that went 8-3...backup center and defensive end in 2001 for team that went 13-1 and lost in state AAA semifinal game...played outfield one season for baseball team.

At Delaware: All-American candidate as one of the top offensive linemen in the Colonial Athletic Association...also an outstanding student who is once again an ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American candidate and a candidate for the NACDA All-Academic national team...will share co-captain duties with running back Omar Cuff and defensive end Matt Marcorelle...pre-season first team All-CAA as voted by the league coaches and media members...also selected a pre-season first team All-CAA selection by Phil Steele Pre-Season Football Preview Magazine...versatile performer with good size and speed...three-year letterwinner who can play either center or tackle...will begin season as starting right tackle...top lineman on an offensive front that returns all five starters and is second in tenure on unit behind fellow senior Rich Beverley...has appeared in 26 career games with 20 starts...2006: Enjoyed an outstanding season as a second-year starter...started all 11 games, playing first two games of season at right tackle and final nine games at left tackle...earned third team All-Atlantic 10 honors as he led an offensive front that helped the UD offense average 26.3 points (No. 4 in A-10), 356.6 total yards (No. 5), and 253.0 passing yards (No. 2) per game...team ranked No. 9 in NCAA I-AA in passing and No. 30 in scoring and total offense...was one of only four underclassmen to earn All-Atlantic 10 honors at offensive line position...team went 5-6 for head coach K.C. Keeler...named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team, was a NACDA All-Academic nominee, and earned first team ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA District 2 All-Academic team laurels...2005: Started all nine games that he played in, sitting out early-season games vs. West Chester and Holy Cross due to a hamstring injury...started six games at left tackle and three at center...helped pave the way for All-American running back Omar Cuff and offensive attack that ranked third in the Atlantic 10 and 20th in NCAA I-AA in rushing offense (119.64)...named Blue Hen Touchdown Club Offensive Player of the Week in 25-15 loss at Maine...team went 6-5...2004: Earned varsity letter as a true freshman for team that went 9-4, won the Atlantic 10 title, and advanced to the NCAA I-AA quarterfinals...joined running back Omar Cuff as the only two true freshmen to see action for the Blue Hens...saw action in six games - all in a reserve role...was pressed into action in the second game of the season when starting offensive tackle Paul Thomson went out with an injury vs. Towson...became first true freshman to see action on the offensive line for Delaware since Steve Butcher in 1951...Thomson returned the next week and Byrne saw action in just five other games - all as a blocking tight end/running back in short yardage situations.

Personal: Michael Timothy Byrne...born Oct. 17, 1986...son of Richard and Sheri Byrne-Long...honor student as a psychology and criminal justice major at Delaware...once again is an ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American candidate...three-time member of Atlantic 10 Academic Honor Roll...father is an air traffic controller and mother is a massage therapist...oldest of three children...younger siblings Adam and Allison are twins...has worked as a bus boy and as a bouncer during the summers....wrote a blog for the Colonial Athletic Association website this past spring, highlighting the Blue Hens’ spring practice activities.
