At Delaware: Third-year member of the squad as a sophomore...key member of Delaware linebacker and special teams coverage unit...one of the team’s hardest hitters...projected to start season as top backup to senior captain Erik Johnson at middle linebacker spot...collected five tackles in spring game.
2007 Season: Earned first letter as a special teams standout and backup at middle linebacker behind Johnson...appeared in all 15 games in a backup role for team that went 11-4 and advanced to the FCS national championship game under head coach K.C. Keeler...collected 28 tackles on the season, including 18 solo stops, to rank No. 2 among non-starters...recorded career-high seven tackles vs. Towson, including a three-yard tackle for loss...also had five tackles in collegiate debut vs. William & Mary and three vs. Monmouth, New Hampshire, and in NCAA quarterfinal win over Northern Iowa...collected three tackles in Blue-White Spring Game in April.
2006 Season: Moved up to No. 3 on depth chart at linebacker but did not see game action...retained freshman eligibility...team went 5-6.
Personal: Benard C. Makumbi (“buh-nard muh coom-be”)...nicknamed “The Missile” by teammates...born March 1, 1988...son of David and Esther Makumbi...both parents are ministers at their church...one of eight children...criminal justice major with a minor in business...enjoys movies, playing basketball, riding roller coasters, and swimming in spare time.
