
High School: Enjoyed an outstanding career at Downingtown East High School where he was one of the nation's top recruits as a senior for head coach Michael Matta...named the 2005 Pennsylvania Class AAA Player of the Year and the Gatorade Pennsylvania Player of the Year and earned a No. 4 ranking among prep quarterbacks nationally by Scout.com....named a Parade Magazine All-American and played in the prestigious Big 33 All-Star Game...three-year starter who threw for 3,300 yards and 35 touchdowns as a senior in 2005 when he led his team to the state playoffs and for 2,100 yards and 21 touchdown as a junior in 2004...threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 70 yards, including a one-yard touchdown run for the winning touchdown, in a state playoff win over Neshaminy in 2005...finished his career as the state’s all-time leading passer with 8,162 yards.
At Delaware: One of the most highly-touted transfers to arrive at the University of Delaware after a three-year career at Penn State...talented quarterback who earned the starting job in spring drills and will lead the Blue Hen offense as a junior in 2009...outstanding athlete who combines a powerful arm and quick release with the ability to run out of the pocket for big gains...has already taken over a strong leadership role with team in short time with the program...enjoyed a solid spring and was outstanding in the spring game, completing 24 of 31 passes for 304 yards and a touchdown.
At Penn State:
2008 Season: Appeared in 10 games as a backup quarterback behind starter Daryll Clark..led team to a record of 11-2, a tie for the Big 10 title, and a berth in the Rose Bowl for head coach Joe Paterno...team was ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation during the season...left the team following the regular season and did not accompany the team to the Rose Bowl....battled for the starting spot before Clark took over just before the season opener...completed 25 of 47 passes for 459 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions and also ran for two touchdowns on the season...played a pivotal role in a mid-season 13-6 win over top-ranked Ohio State when he took over for an injured Clark and led the Lions to two scores.
2007 Season: Played in three games as a backup as a redshirt freshman...saw action in games vs. Florida International, Wisconsin, and Temple...threw only pass for an incomplete vs. FIU....team went 9-4 and won the Alamo Bowl under Paterno.
2006 Season: Did not see game action and retained freshman eligibility.
Personal: Patrick Ryan "Pat" Devlin...born April 12, 1988...son of Mark and Connie Devlin...both parents are graduates of Penn State...older sister, Courtney, attends Penn State...also has a younger sister...honor student as a finance major at Delaware....honor student at Penn State where he was named to the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America District 2 All-Academic first team last fall...will not be eligible for honors this season because he is a first-year transfer...has worked as a Little League baseball umpire during the summer.
