High School: Played linebacker and running back at Lowell for head coach Scott Boyle...led team to a four-year record of 30-12...led team with over 100 tackles, eight sacks and 12 tackles for loss...also returned an interception for a touchdown...rushed for over 500 yards and three touchdowns as a running back...named Most Valuable Player of the defense at Lowell...earned All-State honors as a senior when he also was named 2005 Merrimack Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year...two-time all-conference selection..selected to play in prestigious Shriner's All-Star game...also competed in basketball and track and field...earned coaches award for both teams...member of four conference titles in three sports during career...honor roll student...had perfect attendance for eight years.

At Delaware: Fourth-year member of the squad as a junior...has appeared in 20 career games and registered 31 tackles...expected back at full strength this fall after undergoing knee surgery last October following injury against Massachusetts..was limited in spring drills and did not take part in spring game...one of the team's best-conditioned athletes and one of the defensive unit's most punishing hitters...will once again play a key role on special teams and enters pre-season battling with sophomore Eddie Lugo to take over starting middle linebacker spot with graduation of four-year standout Erik Johnson...

2008 Season: Backup linebacker and a special teams standout before suffering a season-ending knee injury vs. Massachusetts Oct. 4...underwent surgery in the fall...collected two tackles in season opener vs. Maryland and added a stop against Furman...team went 4-8.

2007 Season: Earned first letter as a special teams standout and backup at middle linebacker behind Johnson...appeared in all 15 games in a backup role for team that went 11-4 and advanced to the FCS national championship game...collected 28 tackles on the season, including 18 solo stops, to rank No. 2 among non-starters...recorded career-high seven tackles vs. Towson, including a three-yard tackle for loss...also had five tackles in collegiate debut vs. William & Mary and three vs. Monmouth, New Hampshire, and in NCAA quarterfinal win over Northern Iowa...collected three tackles in Blue-White Spring Game in April.

2006 Season: Moved up to No. 3 on depth chart at linebacker but did not see game action...retained freshman eligibility...team went 5-6.

Personal: Benard C. Makumbi (“buh-nard muh coom-be”)...nicknamed “The Missile” by teammates...born March 1, 1988...son of David and Esther Makumbi...both parents are ministers at their church...one of eight children...criminal justice major with a minor in business...enjoys movies, bowling, playing basketball, riding roller coasters, and swimming in spare time.
