High School: Three-year starter at quarterback who played for head coach Rick Brown at Camden Catholi High School...Brown served on Delaware’s coaching staff as special teams coordinator in 2002-04...led team to three-year record of 27-6 as a starter and led team to state playoffs all three years...captain as a senior...team won two Burlington County Olympic League titles and advanced to the state championship game in 2003...threw for 2,098 yards and 21 touchdowns and completed 67 percent of his passes in 2005 while also rushing for 716 yards and five touchdowns...for his career, completed 64 percent of his passes for 5,591 yards and 51 touchdowns while rushing for 1,730 yards and 17 touchdowns...passing total was the fourth highest in South Jersey history...three-time first team all-conference and first team All-Parochial selection at quarterback...earned first team All-South Jersey honors as a senior...also played defensive back, wide receiver, and returned kicks as a senior...Brooks-Irvine Scholar-Athlete Award winner and Maxwell Club Football Club Mini-Max Award winner.

At Delaware: Fourth-year member of the squad...junior who has played quarterback, safety, and special teams during his career...playing second season as a key member of a Blue Hen defensive secondary that ranks among the top units in the country...enters pre-season camp projected as No. 2 strong safety behind senior Anthony Bratton, who is returning from knee surgery...also a key special teams player, a backup holder on placements, and could be used as an emergency quarterback and punter....intelligent, versatile player with good speed...posted nine tackles in 2009 spring game.

2008 Season: Moved from quarterback to defensive back in spring drills to better utilize athleticism...added solid support to a deep and talented defensive secondary and also saw action on special teams...appeared in all 12 games and earned first career start at strong safety vs. Hofstra when he helped Hens post their lone shutout of the season...played key role for unit that ranked No. 2 in the CAA in scoring defense (20.8 ppg) and No. 1 in red-zone defense (.722)...registered 14 tackles, including nine solo stops, on the season...enjoyed finest game in the start vs. Hofstra as he recorded a team-high nine tackles...also had two tackles vs. Maine and one each vs. Maryland, West Chester, and Villanova...returned a kickoff for no yards vs. Richmond...team went 4-8...posted eight tackles in 2008 spring game.

2007 Season: Redshirt freshman who earned first letter as the team’s No. 2 quarterback...saw action as backup to record-setting All-American and Baltimore Ravens No. 1 round draft pick Joe Flacco...saw action in six games in a backup role to Flacco...completed 4 of 8 passes for 37 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions...carried the ball five times for -14 yards...saw action in games vs. William & Mary, West Chester, Rhode Island, Monmouth, Navy, and Delaware State...completed 2 of 4 passes for 16 yards vs. West Chester, was 0 for 1 vs. Rhode Island, and 2 of 3 for 21 yards with a career-long throw of 17 yards vs. Monmouth...was only quarterback in Hens’ 2006 recruiting class...had a strong spring and completed 9 of 15 passes for 159 yards, including a 42-yarder to Martwain Johnston, in spring game.

2006 Season: Listed as No. 3 on Delaware depth chart at quarterback as a true freshman but did not see action...retained freshman eligibility...was impressive on scout team throughout the fall...team went 5-6.

Personal: Sean Patrick Scanlon...born July 26, 1987...son of Patricia Scanlon...has an older brother and younger sister...brother, Steve, was a tight end at NCAA Division III power Wesley College in Dover, Del...Steve led Wesley to the NCAA III semifinals in 2006 and quarterfinals in 2007, catching 15 passes for 267 yards in 2006 and hauling in 10 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown in 2007...sport management major with a minor in legal studies at Delaware...one of the team’s most community-service oriented student-athletes.
