W 27-20

Senior spread end Eddie Conti set six school records, including two touchdowns over 80 yards, and sophomore quarterback Matt Nagy threw for 344 yards and two touchdowns to lead the University of Delaware to a 27-20 Atlantic 10 Football Conference win over Northeastern before a Homecoming crowd of 18,828 on Saturday at Delaware Stadium. The Blue Hens, ranked No. 8 in the NCAA I-AA, won their third straight game to improve to 4-1 (2-1 A-10) while Northeastern, which has now lost all six games in the series with Delaware, fell to 3-2 (1-2). Conti (Ocean Township/Neptune, NJ) caught seven passes for a school record 234 yards, including a school record 88-yard scoring toss from Nagy (Manheim Central/Manheim, PA) to the tie the score at 17- 17 going into halftime. Conti had earlier returned a punt a school record 85 yards for a touchdown, the school record third of his career. His 401 all-purpose yards, including 329 in the first half, also set a new UD standard as did his fourth straight 100-yard receiving effort. In a game that neither team ever led by more than a touchdown, the Hens clinched the win when Nagy hit freshman Jamin Elliott (Churchland/Portsmouth, VA) across the middle for a 24-yard touchdown pass with 4:26 left to play. Northeastern fumbled away the ball on the following possession to seal the win for the Blue Hens. Northeastern took a 7-3 lead midway through the first quarter when Tony Morales returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, and after Conti's punt return, went up 17-10 on a 36-yard field goal by Joe Connolly and a 41-yard scoring pass from Fred Vallett (23 of 36 for 186 yards) to Dave Klemic early in the second quarter. Northeastern took a 20-17 lead early in the second half when Connolly booted a 45-yard field goal but the Hens tied it again when Garon Sizemore booted a 33-yard field goal with 2:08 left in the third quarter. That scoring drive was set up when Dale Koscielski intercepted a Vallett pass in the end zone. The Huskies had the chance to take the lead midway through the fourth quarter but Connolly's 24-yard field goal attempt with 7:02 left, sailed wide. The Hens then mounted their game-winning 80-yard drive.
