L 31-34 OT

Delaware let several golden opportunities and a 14-point second half lead slip away as Villanova downed the Blue Hens for the third straight year with a 34-31 Atlantic 10 overtime victory. Villanova's Casey Hannon kicked a 35-yard field goal in overtime to lead the No. 8 ranked Wildcats (1-1, 1-0 A-10) to the victory. No. 4 Delaware (1-1, 0-1), which let a 10-point fourth quarter lead slip away in a 35-25 loss to Villanova in 1997, had a six-game road win streak snapped despite a big offensive day from QB Matt Nagy (16 of 27 for 233 yards). Delaware took a 14-10 lead into halftime after a six-yard run by Craig Cummings with 54 seconds left. Villanova regained the lead early in the third quarter but Delaware roared back as Steve Ricco scored on a 14-yard run, Garon Sizemore nailed a 30-yard field goal, and Dale Koscielski returned a fumble 15 yards for a 31-17 lead with 14:47 left to play. Sizemore missed on a 21-yard field goal with 9:11 left hat could have put the game away. Villanova stormed back as QB Chris Boden (40 of 61 for school-record 422 yards) hit Jay Strippoli on an eight-yard TD pass and Brian Westbrook scored on a six-yard run with 2:37 left. Villanova could not get a 52-yard field goal attempt off with three second left to send the game into overtime. Delaware failed to score on its first overtime possession as Ricco fumbled at the Villanova 1-yard line with Jason Gattuso recovering. The Wildcats then won the game on their possession on Hannon's field goal.
