What a difference a week makes. Just one week after allowing 536 total yards in a 52-45 loss at Wm. & Mary, the Delaware defense came up with a big-time performance on the way to the win in a battle of Top 20 powers. Senior safety Dale Koscielski returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown midway through the third quarter and the No. 10 ranked Blue Hens (5-2) held the No. 6 Penguins (4-2) to just 297 yards of offense, forced three turnovers, and blocked a punt. The Hens held the defending NCAA I-AA champions to just 115 second half yards. The Delaware defense stepped up for a struggling offense in the second half, controlling the YSU attack and not allowing a second half score until Adrian Brown scored on a three-yard run with 5:32 left to play. The Blue Hens also got a big lift from the foot of junior kicker Garon Sizemore who booted a school-record tying three field goals, including a 47-yarder on the last play of the first half that cut the Penguin lead to 14-13. Sizemore later hit a 48-yard field that caromed off the crossbar and rolled over to give the Hens the lead for good at 16-14 with 9:06 left. Just two minutes later, Koscielski picked up a Jeff Ryan pass and ran it in to the end zone from 45 yards out. The Hens added some insurance when Andre Thompson scored on a 15-yard run one play after Lamont Watson blocked a YSU punt. Delaware QB Matt Nagy hit on 14 of 28 passes for 211 yards, his sixth straight 200-yard game. He hit Jamin Elliott on a 25-yard scoring pass on the first drive of the game to get things going. Brian McKenna posted a career-high 16 tackles, including a sack, to pace the defense. Jake Andreadis led the YSU attack with 143 yards on 11 carries, including a 58-yard scoring run in the opening half.
