Take Third Place Finish; Frosh Stepanian Fourth

RIVERHEAD, NY -- Freshman Eric
Stepanian (Simsbury, Conn. HS) placed fourth overall and
senior Mike Ladden (Conestoga/Berwyn, PA) tied for
eighth overall to lead the University of Delaware to a third
place team finish at the America East Golf Championships
Tuesday at Long Island National Golf Course.
Towson, led by individual medalist Greg
Cote, won its second straight conference title and earned
the league's automatic NCAA Tournament berth with a 36-hole
score of 621 to edge runner-up Hartford by one stroke.
Delaware was third with a score of 628 followed by Maine
(631), Hofstra (634), Drexel (660), Boston University (666),
and Vermont (677).
Stepanian fired a four over par 75
Tuesday for a two-day total of 154 to lead the Blue Hens
with a fourth place finish.
Ladden, who completed his Delaware career
with his fourth straight America East top 10 finish, tied
for eighth place with a 77-79=156.
Also for Delaware, senior Mark
Swinger (Liberty/Warrenton, VA) placed 15th with a score
of 81-78=159 and freshman Terry Maguire (Cornwall, NY
HS) and sophomore Jason Phinney (Milton, Mass. HS)
tied for 18th place with scores of 161. Maguire shot 82-79
while Phinney was at 80-81.
Cote, whose par on the final hole
clinched the win for the Tigers, led the tournament from
start to finish, shooting 71-77=148 to earn the victory.
Teammate A.J. Glascock was second with a 76-74=150 and
Hartford's Miroslav Holub was third at 80-72=152.
