Ladden's 74 Leads Hens to 9th Place Finish


ANNAPOLIS, MD -- University of Delaware senior Mike Ladden (Conestoga/Berwyn, PA) fired a three over par 74 Saturday to lead the Blue Hens to a ninth place team finish at the U.S. Naval Academy Invitational at the U.S. Navy Golf Course.

The scheduled two-day, 36-hole tournament was shortened to just 18 holes after heavy rains Saturday evening and Sunday.

Princeton took the team title with a score of 299 followed by Navy, St. John's, Navy Blue, and Villanova. Delaware shot a team score of 315 to tie with Seton Hall for ninth place in the 19-team field.

Ladden placed fourth overall with his score of 74, trailing only co-champions Wes Gribas of American and Ryan Dranginis of Navy who shot one over 72 and third place finisher Nat Hoopes of Princeton who carded a 73. Ladden was tied with seven golfers at 74.

Also for the Hens, Mark Swinger (Liberty/Warrenton, VA) placed 38th with a score of 79, Terry Maguire (Cornwall, NY HS) was 45th with an 80, Jason Phinney (Milton, MA HS) was 59th with a score of 82, and Eric Stepanian (Simsbury, CT, HS) was 68th with a 83.

Delaware will next compete at the Princeton Invitational April 21-22.
