Maguire Leads Blue Hens Once

HARRISONBURG, VA -- The University
of Delaware golf team placed tied for 19th out of 24 teams
at the James Madison Invitational Sunday afternoon at
Lakeview Golf Club.
The Blue Hens, who were tied for 16th
after Saturday's first round with a score of 301, shot a
team total of 307 Sunday to finish at 608 and tie Cornell
for 19th place.
St. John's won the team title with a
total of 562 (six under par) to win the championship and
finish two strokes better than Penn State at 564. Maryland
was third at 566 followed by William & Mary and Richmond
tied for fourth at 577.
St. John's John DeForest won the
individual title, firing scores of 66 and 69 to finish
seven-under over the par 71, 6,496-yard course. George
Mason's Craig Mason and Maryland's John Moheyer tied for
second with scores of 136 while Richmond's Kyle Hess, Penn
State's Josh Dawes, and James Madison's Barry Londeree tied
for fourth at 137. In all, 11 golfers shot under par for the
two-day, 36-hole tournament.
Delaware senior captain Terry
Maguire (Cornwall/Cornwall, NY) led the Blue Hens with a
47th place finish, shooting 75 on Saturday and 73 on Sunday
to finish at 148.
Also for the Hens, Jason Phinney
placed 63rd at 75-75=150, freshman Jake Korb
(78-77=155) and sophomore Jerry Newell (73-82=155)
tied for 95th, and sophomore Mike Hoffman was 116th
with a score of 79-85=164.
