Blue Hens Improve 12 Strokes
But Remain in Ninth Place
MIDLOTHIAN, VA - The University
of Delaware golf team improved 12 strokes from its first
round score but remained in ninth place in the team
standings after the second day of the Colonial Athletic
Association Men's Golf Championships Monday at Independence
Golf Club.
All five Delaware golfers improved their
scores from Sunday's first round as the Hens improved from
318 to 306 but it wasn't enough to move up in the team
standings. Tournament favorite UNC Wilmington took over
first place with a score of 291 Monday to finish at 582
while Towson dropped one spot to second with a 295=584.
Old Dominion was third followed by
Virginia Commonwealth, James Madison, George Mason, William
& Mary, Drexel, Delaware, and Hofstra.
The third and final round of the 54-hole
tournament will get underway Tuesday morning at the
7,127-yard, par 72 course. The team champion will earn an
automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Leading the Blue Hens is sophomore
Daniel Spiker who followed a 78 Sunday with a
two-over par 74 Monday to post a score of 152 and tie for
19th. Senior Jake Korb shot 76 Monday and is tied for
29th at 154. Also for the Hens, Devin Milowe is tied
for 39th at 81-77=158 and teammates Chase Miller
(81-80=161) and J.J. Oakley (82-79=161) are tied
for 44th overall.
Old Dominion's Geoffrey Harris took over
the individual lead with a six-under 66 Monday to move to
136, one stroke better than Ted Brown of VCU who shot 68 for
137. A group of three is tied for third at 144, including
Towson's Marc Mandel, the first day leader who followed a 67
Sunday with a 77 Monday.
