Spiker Shoots 73 as Delaware Takes Team Lead

MIDDLETOWN, DE -- Sophomore Dan Spiker shot a two-over par 73 and freshman teammate Devin Milowe carded a 74 as the University of Delaware Blue team took the first round lead at their own Scotty Duncan Memorial Golf Tournament Saturday at Frog Hollow Golf Club.

The second and final round of the 36-hole tournament will begin Sunday at 11 a.m. The tournament honors the late Scotty Duncan, a longtime University of Delaware golf coach and associate director of athletics who founded the tournament as the Eastern Intercollegiate Golf Association championship. The tournament concludes the 2002-2003 season for the Blue Hens.

The Delaware Blue team took the first round lead with a score of 305 while Drexel was second with 308, the University of Ottawa (Canada) was third with 314, the Delaware Gold team was fourth with a 331, and Goldey Beacom was fifth in the five-team field.

Spiker, who was Delaware's top finisher with a 19th place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association championships this past week, braved the rainy conditions to shoot his second best score of the season which included a 36 on the back nine. He was tied for the individual lead with Drexel's Jeffery Michner.

Milowe also shot his second best score of the season with a 74, including a 36 on the back nine, to place third. Also for the Delaware Blue team, J.J. Oakley shot 78 for ninth place, Mike Korb fired an 80 for 12th place, and Chase Miller carded an 83 for 15th place. Mike Hoffman led the Delaware Gold team with a 78 for ninth place.

Goldey Beacom's Mike Tobiason shot a 76 and is tied for fourth place but no other teammate finished in the top 15.
