Delaware Places 21st in
Annapolis, MD
ANNAPOLIS, MD - The University of Delaware men's
golf squad shot team scores of 320 on Saturday and 334 on
Sunday to finish 21st at the Navy Spring Invitational at the
U.S. Naval Academy Country Club.
Host Navy won the team title with a two-day, 36-hole
score of 581 over the par 70, 6,361-yard course, finishing
tied with Johnson and Wales. The Midshipmen won the
tie-breaker as their sixth man score of 77 Sunday was better
than J&W's sixth man score of 81.
Georgetown was third with 583 points followed by Towson,
Methodist, Charleston Southern, Pennsylvania, George
Washington, Lehigh, and Winthrop in the 23-team field.
Delaware's score of 654 placed 21st, four strokes better
than Bucknell.
Delaware was led by sophomore Daniel Spiker who
shot a 78 Saturday and 84 Sunday to finish at 162 and tie
for 89th place. Freshman Devin Milowe placed 91st
(81-82=163), sophomore Chase Miller was 94th
(79-85=164), freshman Steven Banks was 102nd
(82-87=169), and freshman J.J. Oakley was 111th
(92-83=175).
Navy had the top two finishers as Brian Crum shot a 70-69
for a one-under score of 139 to take medalist honors, one
stroke better than teammate Billy Hurley (73-67=140).
Johnson and Wales placed three players in the top 10.
Delaware will continue action April 14 at the George
Washington Invitational at Kings Creek Country Club in
Rehoboth Beach, DE.
