 Freshman J.J. Oakley Places Sixth to Lead Blue Hens to Ninth Place Team Finish

 

REHOBOTH BEACH, DE -- University of Delaware freshman J.J. Oakley (Cape Henlopen/Lewes, DE) matched a season-best with a 75 in the first round and carded a 76 in the afternoon round to place sixth overall and lead the Blue Hen men's golf team to a ninth place team finish at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational hosted by George Washington University Monday at Kings Creek Country Club.

Navy won the team title with a team score of 609, besting host George Washington by seven strokes. Columbia was third in the 15-team field at 628 followed by Villanova (629), Drexel (636), Iona (637), Long Island-Brooklyn (637), Bucknell (638), Delaware (640), and Monmouth (642).

Oakley led the Blue Hens for the first time this season as he shot a 36-hole total of 151 to place sixth overall. The event was played at the 6,664-yard, par 72 Kings Creek Country Club Course, not far from Oakley's home in Lewes, DE. Oakley also shot a 75 during the fall season at the Army Invitational.

Also for the Hens, freshman Devin Milowe was 26th (81-77=158), senior Jake Korb placed 40th (84-80=164), sophomore Chase Miller placed 52nd (82-85=167), and senior Mike Hoffman was 60th (84-86=170).

Villanova's Henry Watson earned medalist honors as he shot 75 in the morning and followed with a 69 in the afternoon to finish at even par 144, two strokes better than the Navy tandem of Brian Crum (70-76=146) and Billy Hurley (69-77=146).

Delaware will return to action Wednesday, April 16 when they take part in the Wesley College Invitational at Maple Dale Golf Club in Dover, DE.
