DE -- University of Delaware freshman
Mike Strasburg fired rounds of 76 and 75
to place tied for sixth in his collegiate
debut to lead the Blue Hens to a ninth
place team finish at the George Washington
Invitational held Monday at Kings Creek
Country Club.
Host
George Washington won the team title as
the Colonials shot 308-288=596 during the
one-day, 36-hole event held at the
6,664-yard, par 72 course. Drexel was
second just six shots back at 602 while
the George Washington B team was third
(618), Monmouth was fourth (621), and
Delhi (NY) College was fifth (626) in the
10-team field. Delaware's team score of
630 was ninth, just two strokes behind
Youngstown State and Iona.
Strasburg
(Oakton/Oak Hill, VA) led all Delaware
competitors as he shot 76 in the first
round and 75 in the second round to finish
tied for sixth with a score of 151.
Sophomore Joe McLister shot 156 (80-76) to
place 19th, junior J.J. Oakley placed 24th
with a 157 (79-78), junior Devin Milowe
was 51st with a 168 (82-86), and sophomore
Matt Grobstein was 54th with a score of
176 (80-96).
George
Washington's Jack Tyler won the individual
title as he shot 75 in the first round and
69 in the second round to finish at even
par 144 and downed Drexel's Jeffery
Michner (70-74=144) in a one-hole playoff.
Delaware
will continue its fall schedule Oct. 4-5
at the Joe Agee Invitational hosted by the
College of William & Mary at Royal New
Kent Golf Club in Williamsburg, VA.
