HOBE SOUND, FL -- Former University of Delaware golfers Jake Korb (near right) and Joey McLister (far right) tied for 23rd place at the Gateway Tour’s Beach Summer Tournament No. 5 which closed out Friday at the Hobe Sound Golf Club.

McLister, who closed out an outstanding four-year career this past spring, and Korb, who was a two-year letterwinner for the Blue Hens in 2001-03, each posted four-round, 72-hole scores of 282 to tie for 23rd place and earn $2,073 each.

McLister shot scores of 67, 74, 68, and 73 while Korb fired rounds of 71 the first three days and a 69 Friday to each finish six-under-par. Tim Turpen won the tournament and a $22,481 paycheck with a 14-under-par 274, downing Brad Klapprott and Randy Leen in a playoff.

Both former Blue Hens are regulars on the Gateway Tour, which was developed in 2001 to help aspiring Professional Golf Association Tour golfers fine-tune their skills in a competitive golf environment. The Gateway has turned into a 59-tournament tour that paid out over $7.2 million in 2006. Among the Gateway Tour graduates are 2005 PGA Rookie of the Year Sean O’Hair, Notah Begay, J.B. Holmes, Kevin Stadler, and 2007 U.S. Open Top 10 finisher Bubba Watson.

Korb has taken part in 12 tournaments this season and has posted two top 20 finishes, including 16th place finishes at the Hammock Creek Golf Club Tournament Apr. 16-18 and at the Martin Downs Country Club May 2-4. He has won over $7,000 on the tour this season.

McLister has appeared in five tournament this seasons and made the cut for the first time this week.

Korb, a native of Newtown, PA, played two seasons for the Blue Hens, averaging 79.50 per round as a junior in 2001-02 and 77.9 per round in 2002-03. He placed 36th at the 2003 Colonial Athletic Association championships and 43rd at the 2002 CAA Tournament.

McLister, a native of Leesburg, VA and three-year UD team captain, ended his career this spring as one of the top golfers in Delaware history. He established school records for lowest stroke average in a season (72.85) and career (74.66) and had nine career rounds in the 60’s. He was a two-time All-CAA selection and had three top 25 finishes at the CAA Championships, including a 10th place showing at the 2006 CAA Tournament.
