GREENVILLE, NC -- The University of Delaware shot a team score of 309 on Friday to finish in 15th place following the first day of the Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina at the Ironwood Golf & Country Club.

Newberry College leads the invitational with a team score of 286, four strokes ahead of Liberty, which sits in second place at 290. St. John’s is in third place at 294, while East Carolina and Francis Marion are tied for fourth at 295.

UD junior Jeff Griest (at right) led the Blue Hens by shooting a three over par 40-35-75 on the par 72, 7,102-yard Lee Trevino Signature Course to finish in a tie for 34th place. Fellow junior Tommy Ellison is tied for 41st place after he shot a four over par 38-38-76 on Friday.

Freshman Kevin McLister, who shot a 41-38-79, and junior Steve Boerner, who shot a 37-42-79, are each tied for 66th place at seven over par. Senior Britt Murdoch is currently tied for 75th place after he shot an eight over par 38-42-80 in the first round of the tournament.

Daniel Stanley of Newberry, who shot a 36-32-68, and Alex Snickenberger of Boston College, who shot a 34-34-68, are each tied for the individual lead after both players finished four under par on Friday.

The three-day intercollegiate continues Saturday morning before concluding on Sunday.
