Delaware Golfers in 16th Place Following First Day of First Market Bank Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- The University of Delaware golf team shot a 310 and is in 16th place out of 19 teams Monday following the first day of the First Market Bank Intercollegiate at the River Course at Kingsmill Resort.

Francis Marion leads the tournament with a two over par team score of 286, while Detroit-Mercy is second at 290 and Gardner-Webb and James Madison are tied for fourth place with 292 scores. Florida Gulf Coast is in fifth place at 293, while Liberty (294), Richmond (297), Saint Bonaventure (299), Bucknell (300), Towson (302) and William & Mary (302) rounded out the top ten.

Delaware, opening its 2008 spring season, is led by freshman Kevin McLister, who is tied for 49th place after shooting a five over par 35-41-76 on the par 71, 6,809 yard course. Junior Jeff Griest (at right) shot a six over par 37-40-77 to tie for 56th place in the individual standings, while freshman Colin Smith is tied for 61st place after shooting a 40-38-78, seven over par.

Junior Tommy Ellison shot an eight over par 40-39-79 and is tied for 70th place, while sophomore Jason Bernstein is tied for 92nd place after shooting an 11 over par 42-40-82.

Andy Whalen of Saint Bonaventure and Mark Sommerfeld of Detroit-Mercy are tied for first place after both players shot a three under par 68.

The First Market Bank Intercollegiate concludes Tuesday with another single round.
