McLister Leads Way as University of Delaware Golfers Place 11th at George Washington Invitational

BETHANY BEACH, DE -- University of Delaware freshman Kevin McLister collected his third top 20 finish of his career as he shot a 45-hole total of 190 to place 18th overall and lead the Blue Hens to an 11th place team finish at the George Washington Invitational Saturday at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club.

McLister (at right), shot a 76 in Friday’s round over the par 72, 6,834-yard course and carded scores of 77 in Saturday’s morning round and 37 in the nine-hole afternoon round to finish at 190 and place tied for 18th in the 100-player field. He also placed 11th at the Hofstra Invitational and 17th at Delaware’s own Scotty Duncan Memorial Tournament back in the fall.

Delaware shot a team score of 777 over the 45 holes to place 11th overall in the 20-team field. The Hens shot a team score of 316 on Friday but improved seven shots over the first 18 holes on Saturday and missed a ninth place finish by just two strokes.

The University of Maryland, led by individual champion Chris Gold (74-72-34=180), took the team title with a score of 738, 10 strokes better than runner-up and host George Washington. Pennsylvania and Navy tied for third place while Bucknell, George Washington B,, Rhode Island, Seton Hall, Skidmore, and Mt. St. Mary’s rounded out the top 10.

Also for Delaware, Tommy Ellison (76-81-38=195) and captain Britt Murdoch (82-75-38=195) tied for 45th place, Steve Boerner was 60th at 82-78-39=199, and Jeff Griest finished 74th with scores of 83-79-40=202.

Delaware will continue action April 4 at the East Carolina Invitational at the East Carolina Golf Club in Greenville, NC.
