SUNSET BEACH, NC -- The University of Delaware golf team shot a five over par score of 869 to finish in 10th place out of 19 teams at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate held Friday through Sunday.
After shooting a 293 on Friday and a 285 on Saturday, the Blue Hens shot a 291 on Sunday to remain in 10th place in the three-day tournament. The result was the third top 10 finish in as many tournaments so far this season for Delaware. Elon won the invitational with a 36 under par team score of 828, followed by Murray State at 846.
Delaware junior Tommy Ellison (at right) shot 72-68-74=214 to finish in a tie for 18th place at two under par at the par 72, 6,761-yard course. Blue Hen freshman Colin Smith tied for 37th place with a two over par score of 72-73-73=218, while sophomore Jason Bernstein finished in a tie for 50th place after shooting 76-72-72=220, four over par.
Freshman Kevin McLister shot 73-72-79=224 to tie for 65th place at eight over par, while sophomore Dan Rexon finished in a tie for 69th place after shooting 79-75-72=226, 10 over par.
Josh Gallman of USC Upstate earned medalist honors by finishing 10 under par at 68-68-70=206, narrowly edging Phil Bartholomew of Elon who shot 71-68-68=207.
The Blue Hens return to action on October 6-7 when Delaware hosts the Scotty Duncan Invitational at the White Clay Creek Golf Course in Stanton, DE.
