NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware men’s golf head coach Mike Keogh has announced the addition of John Brunelle as an assistant coach to the Blue Hen staff.
Brunelle has been employed at UD since 2002 as a Psychologist II in the Center for Counseling and Student Development and as a Counseling Liason in the Student Services for Athletes department. His duties include individual and group therapy, intake assessment, career assessment/counseling, crisis duty, outreach programming/presentation, and the supervision of predoctoral interns and practicum students. He also teaches a student-athlete orientation course and provides consultation to UD coaches, teams, and other athletic department personnel.
Brunelle earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Virginia in 1989, and earned his Master of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences from the University of Florida in 1996. While at Florida, Brunelle served as a sports and fitness coach and instructor, while he developed and taught physical education courses.
From 1996-2000 Brunelle served as a graduate assistant in the Life Skills Program at Virginia Commonwealth University. During his stint in Richmond, Brunelle participated in the research and implementation of the First Tee youth golf program, which was sponsored by the World Golf Foundation, Inc. His duties with the program included the development, implementation, and evaluation of a peer mentoring program that taught life skills to adolescents through golf participation.
Brunelle received his Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology from VCU in 2001 before arriving in Newark.
