WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The University of Delaware golf team recorded a 295 team score and is tied for fifth place out of 22 teams following the first day of the First Market Bank Intercollegiate at Kingsmill Resort.

Liberty leads the tournament with a 284 team score, followed by Campbell at 285, Temple at 292, and Gardner-Webb at 294. The Blue Hens and Southern Illinois are tied for fifth place at 295.

Delaware senior captain Tommy Ellison (at right) shot an even par 38-33-71 on the par 71, 6831-yard course and is tied for sixth place in the individual standings. Sophomore Justin Martinson, coming off his medalist finish at the George Washington Invitational over the weekend, is tied for 17th place after shooting a two over par 37-36-73.

Freshman Greg Matthias shot a three over par 38-36-74 to tie for 24th place, while senior Jeff Griest is tied for 58th place after he shot 38-39-77, six over par. Sophomore Colin Smith is tied for 111th place after he shot a 15 over par 44-42-86.

Five players are currently tied for the individual lead with opening rounds of 70, one under par.

The tournament concludes Tuesday with another single round at Kingsmill Resort.
