PINEHURST, N.C. -- University of Delaware senior golfer Jeff Griest (at right) shot a 12 over par 152 in the two-round stroke play portion of the United States Amateur Championship held this week at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club.
Griest, a native of Glen Mills, Pa., tied for 228th place out of 315 golfers and was not one of the top 64 finishers to advance to match play later this week.
Griest shot a five over par 75 on Monday on Pinehurst’s par 70, 7281-yard No. 2 course. After posting two bogeys and a double bogey in three of the first four holes, Griest shot par on 13 of the final 14 holes including each of the final eight holes.
On Tuesday Griest shot a seven over par 77 on the par 70, 7030-yard No. 4 course. He birdied the fifth and ninth holes to shoot a one over par 36 on the front nine before shooting a six over par 41 on the back nine.
Griest had qualified for the U.S. Amateur by shooting a six under par 136 in a qualifier at DuPont Country Club on August 4.
