Blue Hen Golfers Finish Fourth At Towson Invitational; Ellison Tied For Ninth in Individual Standings

GRASONVILLE, Md. -- Senior co-captain Tommy Ellison (at right) shot a three-round score of 220 to finish tied for ninth in the individual standings and lead the University of Delaware golf team to a fourth place finish out of 17 teams this weekend at the Towson Invitational.

Kent State captured the team title with a three-round score of 853, easily finishing ahead of William & Mary, which finished second at 878. Seton Hall placed third at 880, while the Blue Hens were fourth and UNC Greensboro shot 891 to round out the top five. Delaware has now finshed among the top five in seven of eight touranments during the 2008-09 season.

After shooting a one over par 73 on Saturday during the first round at the par 72, 6,557-yard course at Prospect Bay Country Club, Ellison shot a 74 and a 73 on Sunday to finish with a six over par score of 220. Ellison has now finished in the top 10 in four of seven events this season, including all three so far this spring.

Sophomore Justin Martinson tied for 15th place after shooting 74-72-76=222, eight over par, while freshman Stephen Scialo shot 74-81-70=225, 11 over par, to finish in a tie for 23rd place. Fellow freshman Greg Matthias tied for 27th place after he shot 74-78-74=226, 12 over par, while junior Mike Barrow tied for 82nd place with a 35 over par score of 83-77-89=249.

John Hahn of Kent State took home medalist honors with a five under par score of 68-73-70=211 on the weekend, while teammates Mackenzie Hughes (73-70-70=213) and Nick Latimer (71-71-71-213) each finished three under par to tie for second place.

Delaware returns to action next weekend when the Blue Hens compete in the Lafayette Invitational at the Center Valley Golf Club.
