STANTON, Del. -- Kevin McLister (at right) shot a 73 to tie for the individual lead and Justin Martinson and Greg Matthias each carded top 10 finishes to lead the University of Delaware to the first day team lead at UD’s Scotty Duncan Memorial Golf Tournament Sunday at White Clay Creek Golf Club.

The second and final round of 18 holes will begin Monday at 10:30 a.m. The tournament honors the memory of the late Scotty Duncan, who served as Delaware’s head golf coach for 27 seasons in 1963-90 and was a longtime UD athletics administrator.

Delaware shot a team score of 304 to take the first day team lead, three strokes better than George Washington and 10 strokes better than third place Rutgers in the 15-team field. Lehigh was fourth at 317 followed by Bucknell, St. Francis (Pa.), Mt. St. Mary’s, Ottawa, Monmouth, Goldey Beacom, Wilmington A, Wilmington B, Fairfield, and Hofstra.

The Blue Hens placed second at the tournament a year ago and will be looking to claim the team title for the first time since winning in 2007.

McLister, a junior from Leesburg, Va (Loudoun County High School), shot a one over par 73 on the challenging 6,861-yard course to tie with James Hilaire of Rutgers for the first day lead. McLister placed 12th at the tournament a year ago.

George Washington teammates Brendan Barrack and Sebastian Palomares each shot a 74 to tie for third place while Devon Ripley was fifth with a score of 75.

Martinson, who was last year’s third place finisher, shot a 76 and is tied for sixth place while Matthias is tied for 10th with a 77. Also for the Blue Hens, Stephen Scialo is 16th with a 78 and Bobby Arthur is in 44th place finish after shooting a 44.

Delaware also had three players compete as individuals on the day with Mike Barrow leading the way with a 76 to tie for sixth place. J.R. Fasy shot an 80 and is in 24th place while Jerry Temple carded an 84 and is tied for 51st.
