RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware junior Justin Martinson was named the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Thursday.
Martinson, a native of Avondale, Pa. (Kennett HS), earned medalist honors at the Lincoln Mercury Intercollegiate held over the weekend in Bedminster, N.J. After shooting a two over par 74 during the first round, he shot a tournament-low 69 during the second round to finish at one under par 143 on the par 72, 7,0114-yard course at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club.
The win was the third career individual title for Martinson, who captured medalist honors at the George Washington and Lafayette Invitationals this spring.
On Monday Martinson tied for third place at the Andrew Geyer Memorial Classic after shooting 75-72-147, three over par, on the par 72, 6,794-yard course at Wild Quail Country Club in Wyoming, Del.
The Blue Hens won the team titles at both events and have now won a school-record four consecutive tournaments.
The CAA Golfer of the Week award was the third career honor for Martinson, who shared the award with Nyasha Mauchaza of Towson.
Martinson and the Blue Hens wrap up their 2009 fall season on Monday and Tuesday at the Seascape Invitational at Kitty Hawk, N.C.
