KITTY HAWK, N.C. -- University of Delaware sophomore Greg Matthias (at right) finished in a tie for third place in the individual standings while leading the Blue Hen golf team to a 10th place finish out of 14 teams as UD closed out its 2009 fall season Tuesday at the ODU Seascape Collegiate.

The Blue Hens, who posted a 315 team score on Monday, improved by 23 strokes to shoot 292 on Tuesday and finish at 607. The host Monarchs claimed the team title with a 584 team score, followed by George Washington at 588, Pennsylvania at 589, George Mason at 592 and Longwood at 593.

Delaware’s 10th place finish snapped a school-record string of four consecutive tournament victories for the Blue Hens.

After shooting a three over par 73 during Monday’s first round, Matthias posted a two under par 68 Tuesday on the par 70, 6,131-yard course, tying for the lowest round by a Blue Hen on the season. He finished at one over par 73-68-141, tying for third place at the tournament.

Eric Onesi of Old Dominion earned medalist honors with a two-round score of 69-67-136, four under par, while Nick MacDonald of Hartford was second as he finished two shots back at 73-65-138, two under par. Cole Turner of George Washington, who shot 75-66-141, and Matthias each tied for third place in the individual standings five strokes behind Onesi. The tournament marked the second consecutive top three finish for Matthias, who placed second at the Andrew Geyer Memorial Classic last Monday.
