BEDMINSTER, N.J. -- Blue Hen junior Justin Martinson (at right) shot a 74-69-143 to earn medalist honors and lead the University of Delaware golf team to the team title at the Lincoln Mercury Intercollegiate hosted by Seton Hall this weekend.

The tournament win, in which the Blue Hens finished first out of nine teams, marked Delaware’s school-record third consecutive title. UD won its own Scotty Duncan Invitational two weeks ago and captured the Agee Invitational last weekend.

After recording a 306 team score during the tournament’s first round, Delaware shot a 294 in the second, six shots better than any other team during either round, to take control. The Blue Hens finished with a 600 team score, three shots ahead of second place Boston College at 603. Binghamton finished third at 608, while Seton Hall was fourth at 609 and George Washington placed fifth at 611. Navy (630), Long Island-Brooklyn (632), Fairleigh Dickinson (632) and Wagner (672) rounded out the final team standings.

After shooting a two over par 74 during the first round, Martinson shot a tournament-low 69, three under par, during the second round to finish at one under par on the par 72, 7,014-yard course at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club. The win was the third individual title for Martinson, who captured medalist honors at the George Washington and Lafayette Invitationals this spring.

Fellow junior Kevin McLister, who shot 71-74-145, tied Jake Katz of Binghamton for second place as both players finished two shots behind Martinson at one over par.

Sophomore Stephen Scialo finished in a tie for 18th place after shooting 82-73-155, 11 over par, while sophomore Greg Matthias shot 79-79-158, 14 over par, to tie for 28th place.

Senior Mike Barrow shot 83-78-161, 17 over par, to finish in a tie for 35th place.

Delaware returns to action on Monday when the Blue Hens compete in the First Annual Andrew Geyer Memorial Classic at Wild Quail Country Club in Wyoming Del.
