BETHANY BEACH, Del. -- Coming off an impressive 2009 fall season, the University of Delaware golf team opens its 2010 spring season Friday and Saturday when the Blue Hens compete in the 12th Annual George Washington Invitational.
The 18-team tournament, which includes 36 holes on Friday and 18 on Saturday, will be played at the par 72, 6,834-yard Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club in Bethany Beach.
Delaware posted a school-record four consecutive tournament victories during the fall, capturing the Scotty Duncan Memorial, Joe Agee Invitational, Lincoln Mercury Intercollegiate and Andrew Geyer Memorial Classic.
Junior Kevin McLister (at right) led the Blue Hens by earning medalist honors at both the Scotty Duncan and Andrew Geyer Tournaments and being selected Colonial Athletic Association Golfer of the Week on Oct. 7. Junior Justin Martinson, who tied McLister by averaging a team-low 73.86 strokes per round, won the Lincoln Mercury Intercollegiate and earned CAA Golfer of the Week honors on Oct. 22.
Following the George Washington Invitational, Delaware will take off Sunday before competing in the William & Mary/C&F Bank Invitational on Mar. 22-23. The Blue Hens will also participate in the Fireline/Towson Invitational on Mar. 27-28, the Penn Invitational on Apr. 5, the CAA Championships on Apr. 15-18, and the Penn State/Rutherford Invitational on Apr. 24-25.
