LEESBURG, VA -- The University of Delaware men's golf
team placed 15th out of 16 teams in the season opening
Georgetown University Invitational Sunday at the Lansdowne
Resort.
The University of Pennsylvania won the team title in the
two-day, 36-hole event with a score of 574, 11 strokes
better than runner-up Navy. Temple was third followed by
Seton Hall and Eastern Michigan in the 16-team field.
Delaware improved 11 strokes from Saturday's round of 323
with a 311 to finish at 634, 13 strokes better than St.
Joseph's in 16th place.
For Delaware, senior Mark Swinger was 58th overall
at 80-77=157, freshman Eric Stepanian (80-78=158) and
sophomore Terry Maguire (80-78=158) tied for 63rd,
senior Mike Ladden (83-78=161) and junior Graig
O'Brien (83-78=161) tied for 71st, and freshman Matt
Weber (81-81=162) tied for 77th.
Seton Hall's Eugene Smith was the individual winner,
downing Penn's Kyle Moran in a playoff. Both shot two-under
scores of 142 for 36 holes.
