Delaware 65, Colgate
56
December 2, 1999
NEWARK, DE -- Senior forward
Mike Pegues scored 20 points and pulled eight
rebounds and 7-1 senior Ndongo Ndiaye scored 12
points, pulled eight rebounds, and blocked a school record
nine blocks as the University of Delaware turned away
Colgate 65-56 in a non-league men's baskeball game Thursday
night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The Blue Hens (5-1), who also got 14
points from guard Kestutis Marciulionis and 12 points
off the bench from Billy Wells, won their 11th straight game
at the BCC. Colgate (2-3) lost its second straight despite
team highs of 22 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists from
forward Pat Campolieta.
Colgate shot just 34 percent from the
game (24 of 71) and converted just 2 of 17 three-pointers.
Delaware tied a school record with 12 blocked shots as a
team. Ndiaye, a second-year player from Senegal, was coming
off a seven-block effort in a loss at Rider Monday night.
His nine blocks broke the UD record of eight set twice, most
recently by Spencer Dunkley vs. Navy in
1990-91.
Delaware built a 10-point halftime lead
at 36-26 but could never quite pull away. The Red Raiders
cut the Delaware lead to four at 51-47 with 4:37 left to
play but could never get closer.
In all, the Hens hit 10 straight from the
foul line in the final two minutes, including four straight
from Ndiaye, who entered the game as a 30 percent
shooter.
All-American candidate Pegues, a 6-5
forward, scored 20 points for the 30th time in his career
and in the process became just the fifth player at Delaware
and 24th in America East Conference history to reach 1,500
points.
