January 11, 2000 Pegues Leads Blue Hens Over Drexel with 31 Points NEWARK, DE -- Senior forward Mike Pegues banged out 31 points and dished out five assists to lead the University of Delaware men's basketball team to its 15th straight home win Tuesday night with a 90-77 America East victory over Drexel. The Blue Hens (12-3, 4-1), who also got 14 points from guard Kestutis Marciulionis and 13 from forward Madou Diouf, won their third straight and knocked Drexel (6-7, 3-1) from the league unbeatens. The Dragons had a four-game win streak snapped. Junior forward Mike Kouser led the way for Drexel with 27 points and 17 rebounds while guard Bryant Coursey added 20 points. Drexel was the last unbeaten team left in America East play. The 6-5 Pegues, the 1999 America East Player of the Year, enjoyed his 10th career 30-point effort as he hit on 11 of 17 from the field and 9 of 12 from the foul line. Pegues, who entered the game averaging 18.5 points per game, also collected his 32nd career 20- point game. Delaware's Ndongo Ndiaye added eight points and six blocked shos for the Hens. Delaware, which shot 54 percent from the field (30 of 55), committed just nine turnovers for the game. The Hens have now won 31 straight games when scoring 80 or more points. The Blue Hens took the lead late in the first half, breaking the 10th tie of the half with four points from Pegues in the final 1:01 of play to go into intermission up 42-39. Delaware led the entire second half, breaking away from two early two point leads to put the game away. The Dragons never got closer than nine points the final six minutes of play.
