17-0 Run to Start Game Leads Blue Hens to Rout

DURHAM, NH - The University of Delaware men's basketball team jumped back into the win column in a big way Tuesday night, racing out to a 17-0 lead and posting an easy 96-57 America East win over host New Hampshire at Lundholm Gym.

Delaware (10-3, 2-1 America East), which had a 14-game league win streak snapped in Sunday's 72-68 loss at Maine, got 18 points from forward Mike Pegues and 14 points each from forward Darryl Presley and guard Kestutis Marciulionis.

New Hampshire, which lost its top four scorers from last year's 4- 23 squad, fell to 1-11, 0-1 with its ninth straight loss. Freshman guard Marcelle Williams was the only Wildcat in double figures with 13 points.

The 39-point victory margin was the biggest road winning margin for the Blue Hens since defeating Widener 99-54 in Chester, PA Dec. 8, 1962.

Pegues and Presley combined to score all 17 of Delaware's points in jumping out to the 17-0 cushion. Delaware led 49-24 at halftime and cruised from there, shooting 50 percent from the field (36 of 72).

All 11 Delaware players scored at least four points, including All- America East guard John Gordon who saw his most extensive action of the season after missing the first 11 games with a foot fracture. Gordon scored eight points, including two three-pointers, and had four rebounds and two assists. Center Ndongo Ndiaye added four points, seven rebounds, and six blocked shots. Delaware hit 11 of 27 three-pointers for the game.

"I'm proud of our guys," said Delaware head coach Mike Brey, who returned to the sidelines after missing the Maine game with the flu. "We played defense the whole 20 minutes (of the first half) and really got our transition game going. We are so unselfish in transition its neat to see. We really needed to do this tonight. We took care of business and we can get ready for quite a matchup Sunday (vs. Hofstra at home)."

New Hampshire shot just 28 percent from the field (21 of 75) and committed 21 turnovers.
