NEWARK, DE -- Ajmal Basit had 21 points and 10 rebounds in his first appearance in a Blue Hen uniform as Delaware rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit to defeat Nantucket Nectars Naturals, 85-83, in exhibition basketball action at the Bob Carpenter Center Friday night.

Delaware trailed 65-54 with 11:17 remaining and went on a 12-0 run to take a 66-65 lead with 8:32 left. Fifth-year senior Greg Miller had five points in the run and sophomore transfer Maurice Sessoms added four points in that span.

The Naturals, however, regained their lead and spread it to eight at 81-73 with 2:55 left. But Delaware would not go away, scoring the next 11 points. A pair of drives by sophomore Austen Rowland and a lay-up by Basit cut the lead to two. Miller then nailed a three-pointer off of a Rowland feed to give the Blue Hens an 82-81 lead with 41 seconds left. Rowland followed with two free throws 18 seconds later.

Former Maryland Terp Duane Simpkins, who finished with a team-high 18 points, was fouled on a drive with 16 seconds left and made both free throws.

After Basit, a fifth-year senior transfer from UMass, was fouled and made one of two at the line, Nantucket had one last chance to win it. But Darryl Prue's three-pointer missed as time expired.

Miller finished with 13 points and four assists. Rowland also added 13, while Sessoms chipped in 15 points.

The Blue Hens will play their second and final exhibition game Thursday, November 9 when they host the London Leopards at 7:30 p.m.
