Temple 56, Delaware 49 November 3, 2000 Ajmal Basit PHILADELPHIA -- A 14-0 run late in the second half propelled the Temple Owls past Delaware, 56-49, in the first round of the TiVO Pre-season NIT at the Liacouras Center Monday night. Delaware hung tough with the Owls most of the night and held a 43-36 lead with 9:25 to play on a three-point by Billy Wells from the right corner. However, Temple scored the next 14 points to take a 50-43 lead. Sophomore Maurice Sessoms broke the drought at the 4:32 mark when he scored on a conventional three-point play to cut the Temple lead to four. After Kevin Lyde, who finished with a game-high 21 points, hit an eight-footer to give Temple a 52-46 advantage, Maurice Sessoms hit one of two and Ajmal Basit hit two at the line to pull the Blue Hens to within three. But they would get no closer down the stretch. The Blue Hens were hampered by 17 turnovers, which Temple converted into 20 points. Temple committed just eight turnovers, of which Delaware converted into five points. Ajmal Basit and Austen Rowland each had 11 points to lead Delaware. Basit recorded his first double-double as a Blue Hen by also pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds. Delaware will take on Delaware State Monday, November 20 at the Bob Carpenter Center.
