NEWARK, DE -- The University of
Delaware bombed away for a school and America East
conference record 18 three-pointers and five Blue Hen
players scored in double figures in a 92-75 America East
men's basketball victory over New Hampshire Thursday evening
at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Delaware (3-4, 2-1 America East), which
entered the game as the league's worst three-point shooting
team at 28.5 percent, connected on 18 of 37 shots (.486)
from beyond the three-point arc, surpassing the school
record of 15 set vs. Howard last season and the league mark
of 17 by Vermont vs. Middlebury Dec. 8, 1993. The Hens have
now hit a combined 41 three-pointers in the last three
meetings vs. New Hampshire. Delaware hit on 32 of 64 shots
overall for the game.
New Hampshire (1-4, 0-1), which hit on 8
of its 15 shots from the three-point line, remained winless
in 16 games in the state of Delaware (0-11 vs. Delaware).
Wildcat sophomore Austin Ganly, the America East's leading
scorer, erupted for a game-high 30 points and pulled a
team-high eight rebounds while Chris Brown had 12 points.
Colin Donahue dished out nine assists.
Senior guard Billy Wells led the
Blue Hen assault with 22 points and five three-pointers
while sophomore Ryan Iversen came off the bench to
add a career-high 16 points and four three-pointers,
sophomore Austen Rowland scored 16 points, hit four
three-pointers, and dished out a career-high 14 assists,
senior Greg Miller scored 15 points and hit five
three-pointers, and senior forward Ajmal Basit hit
for 12 points and pulled 15 rebounds. Rowland also pulled
six rebounds and committed just one turnover to go with his
14 assists, the third highest single game mark in UD
history.
Delaware took a 47-40 halftime lead and
built the cushion to 14 points at 73-59 with 9:25 left in
the game. But the Wildcats fought back and cut the lead to
eight points at 78-70 with 4:22 remaining. Delaware kept
firing away, hitting three three-pointers in the final 3:02
to keep the Wildcats at bay.
