Delaware 75, Boston University 55

February 10, 2001

Billy Wells scored a team-high 16 points and hit four three-pointers

BOSTON -- Senior guard Billy Wells scored 16 points and hit four three-pointers, and Ryan Iversen came off the bench to score 13 points and grab six rebounds as the Delaware men's basketball team cruised past Boston University, 75-55, Saturday afternoon at Case Gymnasium.

After leading 15-13 eight minutes into the game, the Blue Hens went on a 17-4 run to go up 32-17 with seven minutes left in the first half. Austen Rowland keyed the run by nailing two three-pointers in that stretch, and the sophomore guard hit all three of his attempts from behind the arc in the first half, breaking out of a 1 for 17 slump from the arc.

"We had a sharp practice yesterday, and it carried over to today," head coach David Henderson said. "Ajmal has had foul trouble all year, and someone different always seem to step up. We showed a lot of character coming back from last weekend. We played great defense against Northeastern when the offense lacked some. Today, however, we put it all together."

The Terriers closed to 34-23 with 3:49 remaining in the first half, but Delaware (15-9, 11-4) scored the last seven points of the half to take an 18 point lead into the locker room. Boston University (10-12, 6-8) closed to 59-49 with 9:35 left, but the Hens went on a 16-2 run to go up 75-51, their largest lead of the game, with 1:42 left.

The Hens won easily despite their leading scorer, center Ajmal Basit, not attempting a shot from the field and finishing with a season-low four points. Delaware attempted just 46 shots for the game and hit only seven from the field in the second half, but kept the Terriers at bay by hitting 14 of 26 from the foul line in the second stanza.

Boston University got 16 points from Paul Seymour and 14 from Jerome Graham, but Delaware held leading scorer Jason Grochowalski to just four points on 2 of 11 shooting. Grochowalski did lead the Terriers with nine rebounds.

With the win, Delaware swept the Boston trip for just the second time in nine seasons. The Blue Hens will look to make it three in a row next Saturday night when they host Towson at 7:30 p.m.
