NEWARK, DE -- All five University
of Delaware starters scored in double figures led by Greg
Miller's career-high 20 points and the Blue Hens
connected on 10 of 11 three-pointers in the second half en
route to a 91-68 America East men's basketball victory over
the University of Vermont Thursday night at the Bob
Carpenter Center.
The game was delayed 50 minutes as two
officials arrived to the game late due to a snowstorm that
dumped over five inches of snow on the Delaware Valley
Thursday afternoon.
Delaware (17-9, 13-4), which won its
fourth straight game, shot 60 percent from the field for the
game, including an incredible 82.6 percent in the second
half, hitting on 19 of 23 attempts from the field. Overall,
Delaware hit on 13 of 21 three-pointers, including 10 of 11
in the second half.
Miller, a senior guard, hit on 6 of 7
shots from the field and 5 of 6 from the three-point line to
lead the Blue Hens with a career-high 20 points. Sophomore
guard Austen Rowland was 7 of 8 from the field and 3
of 4 from the three-point line for 19 points to go with nine
assists while guard Billy Wells and forward Ajmal
Basit each scored 11 points and forward Maurice
Sessoms added 10 points and a team-high seven
rebounds.
Vermont (10-16, 6-11), which had a
two-game win streak snapped, got a game-high 22 points and
seven rebounds from center Matt Sheftic while Tony Orciari
added 13 points and Trevor Gaines chipped in with 10 points
and seven rebounds. The Catamounts dropped to 0-14 all-time
playing at Delaware (0-9 at the Bob Carpenter Center) and
0-18 all-time against all opponents in the state (0-13 at
the BCC).
After Delaware took a 33-29 lead into
halftime, Vermont came out in the second half and tied the
game at 37-37 three minutes into the stanza. But it was all
Delaware after that.
The Hens embarked on a 13-3 run, led by
11 points from Wells, to go up 50-40 with 14:32 left to
play. After the Catamounts chipped away at the lead and cut
the score to 53-47 with 10:03 left, Delaware stormed off on
an 18-6 run to put the game away, going up 71-53 with 5:45
