Hofstra Speeds Past Delaware 80-66 in CAA Men's Basketball

HEMPSTEAD, NY -- Hofstra guard Loren Stokes led four scorers in double figures with a season-high 25 points and Antoine Agudio added 14 points and dished out seven assists as the Pride handed the University of Delaware its second straight loss with an 80-66 Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball victory Saturday at Hofstra Arena.

The Blue Hens (7-11, 4-3 CAA) got another big effort from junior forward Harding Nana who netted team-highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Robin Wentt hit six of eight shots from the field and equalled a season-high with 13 rebounds off the bench and Mike Slattery chipped in with 10 points and five assists, moving into fifth place on the all-time CAA assists list with 529. Forward Lebo Maepa returned to action for the first time in 10 games after a knee injury and scored six points off the bench.

Hofstra (11-5, 3-4 CAA), which snapped a four-game losing streak, got a big effort from Stokes, who hit on 9 of 14 shots from the field, hit on all three of three-point attempts, and also pulled a team-high eight rebounds. Aurimas Kieza and Adrian Uter each added 10 points as Hofstra downed the Hens for the fifth straight time at home.

Raphael Madera and Nana each hit baskets in the first two minutes as Delaware jumped out to a 4-3 lead, but the margin was short-lived for the Hens. Hofstra took off on an 11-0 run over the next two minutes as Kieza hit two three-pointers and Agudio nailed another to take a 14-7 lead and Delaware never recovered.

"We just did not defend today," said Delaware head coach David Henderson, whose team's next outing is a Jan. 25 meeting vs. league-leading Old Dominion in Norfolk, VA. "We were flat and we gave up too many easy layups and open shots. We have to start defending and finishing inside. We were playing from behind all day and could never get over the hump."

The Pride shot a sizzling 62.5 percent from the field in the first half, hitting on 20 of 32 shots from the field and converting five of eight three-pointers to take a 47-37 lead.

Hofstra made sure Delaware wouldn't get any closer as it scored the first five points of the stanza on a Stokes layup and a three-pointer by Agudio to extend the margin to 52-39. The Pride enjoyed its largest lead of the day at 74-55 with 5:37 left to play before the Hens closed the game on a 7-2 run to cut the final margin to 14 points.
