Washington Hits for Career-High 20 Points
as Delaware Routs James Madison 75-40 in
CAA Play

Washington (right) hit on 7 of 9 shots
from the field, including six
three-pointers, and finished with a
career-high 20 points and Harding Nana
registered his eighth straight
double-double with 16 points and 11
rebounds as the University of Delaware
easily handled James Madison for a 75-40
Colonial Athletic Association men's
basketball win Saturday night at the Bob
Carpenter Center.
Mike
Slattery added 11 points and seven assists
as the Blue Hens (7-9, 4-1 CAA) won their
third straight game and remained unbeaten
in seven all-time meetings vs. the Dukes.
Delaware has won 12 of its last 13 home
CAA contests since the 2002-03 season. The
35-point winning margin was the largest
ever for the Hens in a CAA game since
joining the league in 2001-02.
James
Madison (3-10, 1-4 CAA), which lost for
the 10th time in its last 11 games, got a
team-high 16 points from guard Ray Barbosa
and nine points and five steals from Jomo
Belfor. No other JMU player scored more
than four points. The Dukes shot just 26.9
percent from the field (14 of 52) for the
game and committed 20 turnovers. The 40
points were the lowest total allowed by
Delaware against an NCAA Division I team
since the Blue Hens downed Colgate by a
59-39 score Dec. 27, 1985.
Delaware
led wire-to-wire thanks to some hot
shooting and a 38-24 advantage on the
boards. The Blue Hens shot 58.3 percent
from the field for the game (28 of 48),
connecting on 16 of 30 shots (.533) in the
first half and an even better 12 of 18
(.667) in the second half. Delaware also
hit on 10 of 17 shots from beyond the
three-point line, including 6 of 8
shooting by Washington. The junior guard
from Jacksonville, FL was the hero for the
second straight game as his three-pointer
with one second left in overtime lifted
Delaware to an 81-78 win over George Mason
Wednesday night.
Nana, who
entered the game as one of just 14 players
in NCAA Division I averaging over 10
points (19.9 ppg) and 10 rebounds per game
(10.3 rpg), easily reached the milestone
again as he hit on 5 of 12 shots from the
field, including two three-pointers, to
finish with 16 points and 11 rebounds
while also blocking three shots. Slattery,
a senior, also added three steals on the
night and moved into sixth place on the
all-time CAA assists list with
523.
Delaware
jumped out to a 7-0 lead as it held the
Dukes scoreless for the first five minutes
of the contest. James Madison finally got
things going and scored 8 of the next 10
points to cut the lead to two. But
Washington's three-pointer started a 10-0
run over the next seven minutes as the
Blue Hens built the lead to double digits
at 20-8 and never led by less the rest of
the night.
Delaware
closed the first half on a 10-2 run to
take a 40-18 lead into halftime lead. The
Hens led by at least 18 points the entire
second half and built leads of 40 points
twice.
