RALEIGH, NC -- The University of Delaware men’s basketball team trailed the entire game before using an 11-3 run to take the lead with two minutes left and held on to post a 67-64 victory over Stetson in the second round of the Hispanic College Fund Classic Tournament Saturday night at North Carolina State’s RBC Center.
Delaware senior forward and All-American candidate Harding Nana (right) erupted for game-highs of 24 points and 16 rebounds and came up with a key dunk off a feed from Zaire Taylor with 32 seconds left to lift the Blue Hens (2-0) to their second straight win. The Hens, off to a 2-0 start for the second time in the last three seasons, will conclude the three-game tournament Sunday vs. host North Carolina State (2-0) at 2 p.m. The

Calvin Cannon added 13 points and five assists, Henry Olawoye came off the bench to add 10 points and seven rebounds, and Herb Courtney added eight points and eight rebounds as the Blue Hens overcame a tough shooting night. The Hens hit just 40.4 percent from the field for the game (23 of 57), including 3 of 15 shots from beyond the three-point line, and converted only 18 of 39 shots from the foul line. Delaware
used a big 47-37 advantage on the boards and committed16 turnovers, including just five in the second half, to key the victory.
“We are very happy with the win tonight,” said Delaware head coach David Henderson. “You have to win any way you can and tonight we showed that we could grind it out. We didn’t quit and we really showed some toughness.”
The Hatters (0-2) placed four scorers in double figures as E.J. Gordon had a team-high 13 points, Anthony Register added 11 points, including the 1,000th of his career, and a team-high six rebounds, and Gabe McMillen added 11 points. Stetson shot just 38.5 percent from the field (10 of 26) in the second half.
Stetson jumped out to a 15-4 lead and went into halftime up 32-28. Delaware rallied back early in the second half and cut the lead to 40-38, but Stetson took off on a 10-0 run to up the margin to 50-38 with 10:46 left. The Hens still trailed 57-50 with 6:25 left before mounting the comeback.
Delaware followed with a 6-0 run on baskets by Courtney, Nana, and Raphael Madera to cut the lead to 57-56 with 3:51 and tied the score at 60-60 on a three-pointer by Cannon with 3:02 remaining. The Hens took the lead for good just one minute later when Courtney hit one free throw to make it 61-60, Olawoye hit a turnaround jumper, and Nana came up with his big dunk to up the lead to 65-60 with 32 seconds left.
