NEWARK, DE -- Forward Todd Hendley scored a game-high 18 points, guard John Goldsberry added 16, and guard T.J. Carter scored eight of his 12 points during a key four-minute stretch late in the second half as UNC Wilmington pulled away to hand the University of Delaware a 71-58 setback Thursday night in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball game at the Bob Carpenter Center.

UNC Wilmington (10-5, 3-1 CAA) snapped a three-game losing streak and downed Delaware (4-8, 0-3 CAA) for the fourth time in the last five meetings. The Hens dropped their second straight and are now 0-3 to start league play for the first time since the 1988 89 season.

Delaware All-American candidate Harding Nana, a senior forward, paced the Hens with his seventh double-double of the season as he scored 14 points and added 12 rebounds and became just the 24th player in school history to pass the 1,000 career point mark with a first half three-pointer. Sophomore forward Herb Courtney (at right) added 14 points and guard Andrew Washington came off the bench to chip in with 12 points.

The Seahawks converted 20 of 25 shots from the foul line and committed just nine turnovers in posting the win, their fourth in five appearances at the BCC. Goldsberry hit on 10 of 13 shots from the foul line. Carter added team-highs of six rebounds and four assists and converted two three-pointers for UNC Wilmington. Delaware was outrebounded 34-29 and went to the line just 11 times, converting eight.

UNC Wilmington used an 11-4 run midway through the first half to break away from a close game and eventually took a 43-32 lead into intermission. The Seahawks stayed in front by at least seven points for the first 10 minutes of the second half before the Blue Hens rallied to cut the lead to three at 58-55 with 5:39 remaining when Andrew Washington nailed back-to-back three-pointers.

But that was as close as the Hens would get as Carter answered 17 seconds later with a three-pointer, Beckham Wyrick followed with a jumper, Goldsberry nailed two free throws, and Carter finished the 9-2 run with a jumper to put the lead back to double digits at 69-57 with 1:21 remaining.
