ATHENS -- Former University of Delaware basketball standout Harding Nana (at right) played two games for the Cameroon National Team last week at the 2008 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Athens, Greece.
Nana scored a team-high 24 points in Cameroon’s 93-79 loss to Croatia on July 14, going 7 of 11 from the field and hitting all seven of his free throw attempts. He added four rebounds, three assists and two steals in 36 minutes of action. Nana led the team with 22 points and 14 rebounds in an 81-72 defeat to Puerto Rico the following day, hitting 8 of 12 shots from the floor while handing out two assists. With the two losses, Cameroon was eliminated from the tournament and did not qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Playing on a team that included current VCU forward Franck Ndongo and former Georgetown standout Ruben Boumtje Boumtje, Nana led Cameroon by averaging 23.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in the pair of games.
Despite playing just two and a half seasons for Delaware from 2003-06, Nana ranks sixth in Delaware history with 784 career rebounds and eighth with 1,345 career points. He is tied for the school record with Spencer Dunkley with 40 career double-doubles. A two-time first team All-CAA selection, Nana was one of just seven players in Division I to average over 19 points and 10 rebounds per game during the 2005-06 season. He currently plays professionally for Turow Zgorzelec in Poland.
