NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware men’s basketball assistant coach Jeff Rafferty was named to the Top 10 Mid-Major Assistant Coaches list on FOXSports.com on Monday.

Rafferty was one of 10 Mid-Major coaches named in a poll of college basketball head coaches and assistant coaches. Jeff Goodman, senior college basketball writer for FOXSports.com, wrote of Rafferty, “The 32-year old is a rising star in the business. He’s been at Delaware for two seasons after spending a pair under Bill Herrion at New Hampshire. Previously, he was critical to UMass-Lowell’s success in his four years as the top aide.”

Rafferty played a major part of Delaware’s 14-17 overall record and 9-9 Colonial Athletic Association mark in 2007-08, as the Blue Hens improved by nine games over their 2006-07 mark. He served as head coach in UD’s 70-63 win over Towson on December 3 in the Blue Hens’ conference opener this season.

Prior to arriving at Delaware, Rafferty served two years as an assistant coach at the University of New Hampshire. He spent four seasons as the top assistant coach at UMass-Lowell, leading the River Hawks to a 94-30 record, consecutive Northeast-10 regular season and tournament championships, and back-to-back trips to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. Rafferty has also coached at Springfield (MA) College and Texas-Pan American, and began his career by serving an internship with the NBA’s Boston Celtics.

Rafferty was joined on the list by Pat Skerry of Rhode Island, Matt Matheny of Davidson, Matt Graves of Butler, Geoff Arnold of Drexel, Casey Alexander of Belmont, Matt McMahon of Appalachian State, David Carter of Nevada, Chad Dollar of Arkansas State, and Bill Donlon of Wright State.
