RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware senior guard Marc Egerson (Wilmington, Del/Glasgow) was named to the first team All-Colonial Athletic Association at the CAA Men’s Basketball Awards Banquet at the Richmond Downtown Marriott Thursday night.
Delaware (13-18) is the No. 9 in the CAA Tournament being held this weekend at the Richmond Coliseum and will take on No. 8 seed Georgia State (11-19) in a first round game Friday, March 6 at 12 noon. The winner of that game will face top-seeded VCU Saturday in the quarterfinalas at 12 noon. The tournament continues through Monday with the champion earning an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Egerson was joined on the all-conference first team by 2009 CAA Player of the Year Eric Maynor of VCU, Matt Janning of Northeastern, Charles Jenkins of Hofstra, and Gerald Lee of Old Dominion.
Egerson, who has started all 31 games for the Blue Hens this season, leads the team with 15.5 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. He is one of 17 players in Division I currently averaging a double-double, and is the only player in the country averaging at least 10 points, 10 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
Egerson leads the CAA and ranks 16th in Division I with 10.4 rebounds per game, and also leads the league with 14 double-doubles, 8.4 defensive rebounds per game and 36.4 minutes played per game. He is also fourth in the conference with a 38.9 three-point field goal percentage and fifth with 15.5 points per game. He has reached the 20-point mark 12 times this season, including a career-high 28 points in the season opener against Rutgers.
Juwann James of James Madison, Darryl Monroe of George Mason, Scott Rodgers of Drexel, Larry Sanders of VCU, and John Vaughan of George Mason comprised the second team All-CAA.
The third team All-CAA consisted of Manny Adako of Northeastern, Joe Dukes of Georgia State, Junior Hairston of Towson, Cam Long of George Mason, David Schneider of William & Mary, and Chad Tomko of UNC Wilmington.
CAA Rookie of the Year Julius Wells of James Madison, Bradford Burgess of VCU, Samme Givens of Drexel, Quinn McDowell of William & Mary, Devon Moore of James Madison, and Ryan Pearson of George Mason made up the CAA All-Rookie Team.
The CAA All-Defensive Team consisted of CAA Defensive Player of the Year Larry Sanders of VCU, Chaisson Allen of Northeastern, Scott Rodgers of Drexel, John Vaughan of George Mason, and Greg Washington of Hofstra.
Baptiste Bataille of Northeastern, Darion Jeralds of UNC Wilmington, Brian Morris of Towson, Nkem Ojougboh of Northeastern, and David Schneider of William & Mary comprised the CAA All-Academic First Team. Jonathan Adams of Old Dominion, Matt Janning of Northeastern, Daniel Mercer of UNC Wilmington, Zygis Sestokas of Hofstra, Leon Spencer of Drexel, and Arminas Urbutis of Hofstra made up the second team.
Bruiser Flint of Drexel was named the CAA Coach of the Year, while Darion Jeralds of UNC Wilmington earned the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award.
